WILL COVID-19 Impairments Go Viral?

The COVID-19 outbreak has had a significant impact on the economy, financial markets, and businesses – with major implications related to the loss in value associated with many companies and assets. During our May webinar session, Josette Ferrer (Managing Director at Clairent Advisors) and Terry Lloyd (Managing Director at Finance Scholars Group) will cover the following:

  • An overview of value considerations associated with a variety of situations – including financial reporting, tax planning, M&A, and disputes/litigation.
  • A focus on the impact of COVID-19 on impairment related to goodwill and long-lived assets, as well as earn-outs. The session will cover impairment triggering events, the impairment testing process, and a detailed case study, and will include a discussion on both “Big GAAP” and Private Company Council (“PCC”) considerations.
  • Valuation-related lessons from the 2008/2009 Great Recession – and key differences related to the current crisis.
  • Important new considerations associated with the application of valuation approaches and assumptions – related to forecasts/scenarios, discount rates, market multiples, and other factors.
Please send any questions for the webinar to Dalyte Kodzis, Chapter Administrator, at chapter.admin@fei-sfba.org and we will tee these up for the session.
